Let’s get this over with quickly so we can focus our remaining positive energy on beating the Ducks. What a crappy weekend – a complete mental breakdown in the closing seconds of the game vs. ASU, an embarrassing effort by the Seahawks vs. Arizona and for desert, a Yankee comeback over the Angels. I just vurped a little (vomit + burp).
I am not going to pile on about the defensive breakdown on the second to last play that ruined our chance at an OT win in a game that was sloppy and disappointing throughout. But this team never quits and had a chance to win again at the end of the game in spite of all that went wrong during the game. The defensive breakdown was obvious and our highly-paid Defensive Coach should take responsibility and own up to the mistakes made. I love his fire. I love his intensity. But I hated the scene on TV as he was berating a player, or when his staff was getting flagged for another personal foul late in the game. Enough.
The cascade of errors really began on our final offensive drive with about a minute to play in the game. This is what Coach Sark wants – we want the ball at the end of the game. We had a chance and we blew it. To his credit, the Coach took the blame for what ensued. Run out the clock and take your chances in OT. Or put the ball on the ground on 3rd and one and get a first down with options remaining and control in your hands. But a failed pass play stopped the clock, turned the ball over and the rest is history. A miracle ending one week and a disastrous one the next. So it goes with a team and its coaches in its adolescence.
Not much else to say, other than Beat the Ducks! I will post again after a few days of emotional cleansing. Time to get focused on the most important game of the season (now that we blew what was the most important game of the season). Beat the Ducks and all is forgiven. Bleed Purple. Be Gold. GO DAWGS!
