Thankful

I hope that all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving full of good times and memories with family and friends.  Husky fans had much to be thankful for…the Apple Cup.  It seemed like forever since the last Dawg victory.  If nothing else the Cougars present an opportunity to get well.  The Huskies blank the Cougs 30-0.  This is the first shutout for the Dawgs in the Apple Cup since 1964 (no wonder I couldn’t remember one).  Chris Polk got his 1000+ yards, the first time in Husky history for a freshmen.  Jake Locker seemed to find his running legs again.  The Husky defense padded their stats and repeatedly treated various Coug quarterbacks like rag dolls.  For one day all was right in the world, actually I was quite certain of the outcome of the game well before kickoff.  Why, besides every shred of statistical information available?  Well, it was an omen.

Dana and I were invited go bowling the day before Thanksgiving.  Not football bowling of course, that ship has sailed…bowling, with a ball, finger holes, and pins.  You know – bowling.  The DeNike’s were running a pre-birthday party for my godson, Jack.  A good excuse for some holiday fun and to see how Jack would like it for his upcoming birthday.  When Jim and Sarah decide to party they always do it right, so naturally they set us up at Lucky Strike in Bellevue.  Dana and I had a previous meeting and we were running late so we settled in as spectators as the family rolled balls.

We were having a great time and by the way if you haven’t already been there Lucky Strike is a first class outfit.  It is definitely not a regular bowling lane.  Not more than ten minutes in, I recognize the person in the lane over to our left.  No other than the ex-coach of our Washington Huskies…he who shall remain nameless.  He had brought his family out trying to stay incognito.  After telling Jim and Dana I settled into watching the bowling in our lane shouting encouragement and high-fiving appropriately, still keeping an eye the one who led us into the depths.  What kind of game does this guy have anyway?  Is it only coaching that he leaves much to be desired?  I had to find the answers.  I survived the mission and am here to give you the answers.  He rolled an 84…his entire family beat him and most important.  My godson, Jack outscored him.  Ok, he had his bumpers up, but for cryin’ out loud he’s four.

Today there are  still plenty of reasons for a compelling game against Cal.  Cal needs a win to solidify their bowl position.  The Dawgs would like to build on last weeks win over the Cougs.  While this season has been positive in my opinion no matter what.  5-7 and ending the season with a victory will continue the momentum into recruiting.  This is going to be a tough game but one that I see as being close.  Last year we ended the year against Cal, but I don’t see us rolling over like we did then.  It is time to make a statement.

GO DAWGS!!!  Beat the Bears!
